Inspirational Yankees Fan Won’t Give Up on Quest to Catch a Foul Ball

Posted: 30 Sep 2015 09:28 AM PDT

Normally you don’t have to buy such an expensive ticket to be this publicly embarrassed.

Little did this fan know what a nightmare his terrific seats on Yankee Stadium’s third-base line would become at Tuesday’s Red Sox-Yankees game. The unfortunate guy was caught on camera butchering three separate shots at catching a foul ball.

First came a pop foul that he dropped. OK, pop-ups can be tricky. But that was followed by a ground ball that went right through his hands and into his chest. Finally, a merciful ball boy tried to throw the guy a bone by softly tossing him a ball that ended up hitting him in the face. The man was forced to reach over the wall to pick up his long-awaited prize.

Watch How I Met Your Mother Co-Stars Reunite to Prank Party Planners

Posted: 30 Sep 2015 07:57 AM PDT

How I Met Your Mother fans rejoice! Barney and Robin teamed up to pull one over on three party planners during Tuesday night’s episode of Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris. Cobie Smulders’ real-life husband, Taran Killam, also got in on the action.

Similar to last week’s Britney Spears “Voices In Your Head” segment, the sketch features Smulders interviewing potential party planners while Harris and Killam instruct her on what to say and do. The interviews take place in Smulders’ home where she suggests several awful anniversary party ideas fed to her through an earpiece. She proposes covering the pool to create a dance floor and giving a cringeworthy sentimental toast.

“There are so many stars, so many grains of sand, but when I look to you, my light, my hero, the wind beneath my wings — I have found my planet that I want to live on,” the actress says while barely containing her laughter.

See Marion Cotillard’s Most Memorable Roles

As Marion Cotillard turns 40, she’s in an enviable position. The French actress hasn’t just evaded typecasting—she manages to surprise fans with each new role.

Part of it is that she has next to no actual persona: Cotillard reveals little about her life in the press, preferring to dig deep into work with some of the world’s top directors. She also tends to veer from what’s expected of an Oscar-winner, taking on projects smaller or stranger than her contemporaries might. Here are some of the roles that have defined her as indefinable.

Hear Florence + The Machine’s Haunting Cover of “Where Are Ü Now”

Florence + The Machine has now joined Pentatonix and CHVRCHES in what seems to be becoming a Justin Bieber song-covering craze. The group performed a rendition of “Where Are Ü Now,” a collaboration between Skrillex and Diplo’s Jack Ü with vocals by Bieber, for BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge on Tuesday.

Florence Welch slowed down the track, utilizing her stunning vocals to capture the emotion of the high-energy summer dance song.

Where are you to cover every Biebs song, Florence?

This New Dove Ad Shows How We All Have the Same Insecurities

Posted: 29 Sep 2015 02:20 PM PDT

As part of Dove’s ongoing campaign to boost female self-esteem and celebrate female beauty in all shapes and sizes, a new ad shows teen girls talking about how they would like to change their appearance. The girls with straight hair wish that they had curly hair, while the girls with curly hair wish that they had straight hair. Tall girls wish that they were shorter, and short girls wish that they were taller. Anyone who has been on a sleepover or eaten at a cafeteria table with a lot of young girls will remember this kind of yearning well.

And now on Pinterest, the epitome of wistful feelings on the Internet, Dove has created “confidence-boosting boards” with more than “80 pins of self-esteem activities” so girls and their parents can share words of encouragement.

Lemony Snicket Pledges $1M to Planned Parenthood

Dan Handler, better known as A Series of Unfortunate Events author Lemony Snicket, pledged along with his wife Tuesday to donate a million dollars to Planned Parenthood, in the midst of an ongoing congressional investigation into the group.

Jessica Chastain Called Out Hollywood for Oversexualizing Female Action Stars

Posted: 29 Sep 2015 02:00 PM PDT

Jessica Chastain spoke out about the film industry creating oversexualized female characters in order to draw audiences to theaters. During an interview with Radio Times to promote her upcoming role in Ridley Scott’s The Martian, the actress explained that Hollywood has a penchant for poorly portraying its leading lady action stars.

“If you look at films like Elektra and Aeon Flux, the problem that studios have is they try to make kick-ass women very sexualized,” Chastain said. “They have to be in some catsuit.”

She also commented on the characteristics that her ideal female action hero embodies.

“But if you look at the most incredible female roles, like Ripley in Alien, she is a very sexy woman but she’s not wearing a lot of makeup,” the actress remarked. “She’s in a T-shirt and jeans. What’s sexy about her is how capable she is. Same with Jennifer Lawrence in Hunger Games – she’s not wearing a catsuit, either. Studios have misjudged it in the past and thought audiences weren’t interested in seeing a woman in an action role who’s a capable, intelligent woman and isn’t only leaning on her sex.”

In The Martian, Chastain plays Commander Lewis, the astronaut captain of a crew on Mars. She stressed that she only cares about movies in which actresses portray roles that are as intriguing as their male counterparts’.

“If the female character isn’t as interesting as the male character, I’m not interested,” she said.
