‘Dear Fat People’ Comedian Loses Film Project in Wake of Controversy

Posted: 11 Sep 2015 09:29 AM PDT

Nicole Arbour—a comedian whose “Dear Fat People” YouTube video went viral after many people were offended by it—has lost the chance to work on a film project, the film’s director said.

Director Pat Mills said Arbour was in discussions to choreograph dance movie Don’t Talk to Irene, but when he saw the video, he decided he didn’t want to work with her.

Arbour was never formally attached to the project, though she and Mills were in the process of drafting a contract, Mills told TIME. “We never officially fired her because we never hired her because she never signed the contract,” he said.

But Arbour said Mills is using the controversy for his benefit.

“I have never been formally attached to this project. We had spoken of it, and last I heard the team was doing a re-write. Pat Mills is using my YouTube story as a reason to get a low budget film that has not yet even started production press,” Arbour said in an email to TIME.

Mills, on the other hand, said Arbour needs to take responsibility for her actions.

“A lot of people think it’s okay to publicly shame fat people and we need to fight back and say this is just as offensive as homophobia and just as offensive as sexism,” he said. “If you say these things, you should lose a job.”

Arbour previously told TIME that she would not apologize for what she considers satire.

“I feel it’s really important that we make fun of everybody,” she told TIME earlier this week. “I think [what] brings us together and unites us as people is that we can poke fun at all of us.”

Arbour’s video has now been viewed more than 3 million times.

See What It’s Like When Tom Brady Throws a Football at Your Face

Under Armour released a new 30-second spot featuring Tom Brady on Thursday, during the star’s first game post-Deflategate in the NFL’s regular season opener.

The ad features an army of Bradys training tirelessly and eventually throwing the ball (which seems fully inflated) toward the camera. So fans can now imagine what it’s like to be on the defensive line against him.

Droga5 was the creative agency behind the Under Armour campaign, Rule Yourself, which previously launched a spot featuring NBA MVP Stephen Curry, who helped the Golden State Warriors bring home an NBA championship; Misty Copeland, the first black principal ballerina at the American Ballet Theatre; and golfer Jordan Spieth, who won both the 2015 Masters and the U.S. Open.

See a 9/11 Search and Rescue Dog’s Sweet 16 Birthday Celebration

A deserving pup named Bretagne just had a birthday to remember. BarkBox, a pet food and gifts subscription service, shared a video about a New York City celebration for the golden retriever that worked with Texas Task Force 1 and handler Denise Corliss to help search for victims trapped in the rubble of the fallen World Trade Center towers in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks.

Corliss and the canine — said to be one of the last surviving 9/11 search dogs — were recently treated to a suite at 1 Hotel Central Park, a vintage taxi ride through Times Square, a visit to the sprinklers at Hudson River Park and a Tiffany & Co. sterling silver bone, in addition to other colorful pet toys.

In recent years, Bretagne has still worked as a service dog, keeping elementary school students with special needs company as they learn to read.

Watch a Starbucks Barista’s Epic Solo Dance Party to The Weeknd

If you thought there was no way your morning coffee could get any better, prepare to be surprised.

This video of a Starbucks barista getting down to The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face” as he makes a drive-through customer’s coffee has quickly gone viral.

Robert Ashwander originally posted the video to Facebook after filming it at a Starbucks in Webster, Texas, as he and his friend waited for their caramel macchiatos, according to a Global News report. The barista apparently burst out from the back room specifically to bust a move to the song.

“He just came out of nowhere and started dancing and threw straws at us,” Ashwander told Global News. “He didn’t even say a word to us. He just started dancing and we started laughing.”

Here’s What Friends Would Look Like As a Horror Movie

Posted: 11 Sep 2015 08:15 AM PDT

Friends is downright terrifying.

You may not have realized it when you first watched the sitcom, but the show is filled with seemingly innocuous moments that when woven together — and taken entirely out of context — create an unsettling picture of the characters and their behavior.

Luckily the geniuses at World Wide Interweb were able to see through the show’s laugh track to the gruesome reality that lay beneath. They have created a video that splices together some of the most unnerving moments of the series.

“Dead Friends” raises a lot of questions: Is Ross an angry sociopath who never recovered from the shock of finding out Chandler was dating his sister? What “kind of crazy” thing did Monica do at work last night? What’s going on in Rachel’s storage room? What did Phoebe see? What is Joey hiding? So many questions, so few answers. The only solution is to watch the entire series again from the beginning and look for clues.

Johnny Depp Says He Might Take Wife Amber Heard’s Last Name

Posted: 11 Sep 2015 07:50 AM PDT

Johnny Depp stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday and could barely be heard over the roar of the adoring crowd — so he might just make himself ‘Heard’ in a different way.

Jimmy Kimmel had invited the actor on to the show to talk about his new film Black Mass, but the audience was packed with Depp fans who couldn’t stop cheering his every word. In between screams, Kimmel managed to ask a few questions. Like where Depp’s last name comes from.

“Do you run into other Depps?” he asked, and Depp had to admit that he did not and didn’t even really know the history of his last name. That’s fine, though, because he just might take his wife Amber Heard’s last name anyway.

This Kid Reviewing His First Day of School Is All of Us Discovering What the Real World Is Like

Growing up is hard to do. When questioned about what he thought of his first day of kindergarten, this little boy’s response couldn’t have been more perfect.

This video was originally posted to YouTube by user Tracy’s Videos and features the person behind the camera asking the boy, “Why was your first day kind of medium and not good?”

“Because there was only math, like learning, and it wasn’t that fun,” the newly-minted student replies. “I was expecting to like play and have fun… but it was only just learning.”

Don’t worry kid, reality was a kick in the teeth for the rest of us too.

Watch Carrie Underwood Try to Kick Jimmy Fallon and Andy Samberg in the Face

Posted: 11 Sep 2015 07:21 AM PDT

On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Thursday night, two former Saturday Night Live stars — host Jimmy Fallon and actor Andy Samberg — started off the football season by kicking footballs at illustrations of each other’s faces. They also took turns trash-talking each other. The best part was when Andy kicked an illustration of himself instead of an illustration of Fallon. Country music artist Carrie Underwood then stepped in to relieve Fallon, but couldn’t even kick the ball.

Needless to say, you would not want to draft any of these stars onto your fantasy football teams.

Photos Show Rainbow Over One World Trade Center on Eve of 9/11 Anniversary

A New Yorker who captured a remarkable view saw his photos go viral on the eve of the 9/11 anniversary.

Ben Sturner noticed a rainbow that appeared to emanate from One World Trade Center from the terrace of his Queens apartment on Thursday morning, according to NBC. He took photographs and posted them on Twitter, writing, “Amazing NYC Rainbow today. Originating from #worldtradecenter the day before #911.”

The images were quickly picked up by news media, and Twitter users responded that the photos were “amazing” and gave them “chills.”

Sturner followed up on the view Friday morning, showing dark clouds over Lower Manhattan on the actual anniversary of the attacks.

This May Be the Sweetest Grandfather-Grandson Relationship Ever

Posted: 11 Sep 2015 07:00 AM PDT

For just one day every September, the spoilers become the spoiled. National Grandparents Day has been observed in the U.S. on the first Sunday after Labor Day since President Jimmy Carter signed the proclamation in 1979. But for one 6-year-old boy, long before that day was made official, every day was grandparents day.

On Aug. 29, 1955, the face of a red-haired, freckle-nosed boy named Billy Conner graced the cover of LIFE Magazine under the headline, “The Fun of Being a Grandson.” Billy lived four blocks away from his grandfather William James Conner, 63, a section foreman on the Missouri Pacific Railroad in Batesville, Ark. The photo essay by Leonard McCombe documented their afternoons reading the newspaper, eating ice cream, fishing for catfish and dealing with wiggly teeth.

Though Billy’s love for his grandfather is unmistakably genuine, his desire to spend time together stemmed, at least in part, from William’s willingness to indulge his grandson’s boyish behavior: Billy “revels in the company of granddad because he is no disciplinarian at all.”
