The New Star Wars Script Made Star John Boyega Cry Posted: 24 Sep 2015 08:47 AM PDT John Boyega hasn’t been in very many films yet, but the ones he has starred in have been pretty dark: In sci-fi comedy Attack The Block, his 2011 debut, Boyega played a teen on the run from murderous aliens; in 2013’s drama Half Of A Yellow Sun, he played a young man struggling desperately to survive the Nigerian Civil War. Still, as Boyega told GQ this week, it was his upcoming breakout role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens that brought him to tears. “When I read the script I cried, and I’m not really a big crier,” admitted Boyega. “I’m more like a frog-in-the-throat kind of guy, who’ll try to hold it in and make sure I don’t let it all out.” Though Boyega couldn’t say much about the movie’s plot or his character Finn’s arc, he did share that Finn’s story is similar to that of our favorite Jedi: “Finn is dope. His story is so epic. It’s a story that’s never been seen before, but it also mirrors the stories of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo. And he’s quirky and charismatic and funny. For me, he was the best character in the script.” Boyega also revealed that it took nearly seven months of auditions to land the part—“It was like The X Factor but without the TV show around it”—and that filming itself was just as intense. “They’re heavy, [the lightsabers], and there’s a lot of running involved. I was trained on a high incline treadmill so when it came to it I could sprint around the desert in a leather jacket,” Boyega said, then quipped,“They should do a Star Wars weight loss program.” Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters Dec. 18.
Watch New Dad Ryan Reynolds Try to Assemble an IKEA Crib Posted: 24 Sep 2015 08:17 AM PDT A new video produced by GQ magazine is bound to disappoint women who have always dreamed about spending the rest of their lives with actor Ryan Reynolds. In this clip, Reynolds, who has an eight-month-old baby with wife and Gossip Girl star Blake Lively, attempts to assemble a crib from IKEA. “Well, besides a slow descent into alcoholism, I’m just really having trouble finding all the screws and all the pieces that go with it,” he says in a “phone call” with customer service. “So I’m just wondering if there’s a representative — or five — who could come by and make this happen for me?” So ladies, if you still want him, then just be prepared to assemble the IKEA furniture by yourself.
Andrew Garfield Thinks This Mean Tweet About His Hair Is Ridiculously Funny Posted: 24 Sep 2015 07:38 AM PDT Emily Blunt, Salma Hayek, Andrew Garfield and Jack Black added their names to the list of celebrities willing to stand up on live TV and read online insults about themselves on Wednesday night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! The actors became the latest bunch to participate in Kimmel’s special “Mean Tweets” week. Blunt seems to take the offensive remark about her voice to heart, while Garfield bursts out laughing at the question, “Is Andrew Garfield trying to do his utter best to look like a pedophile that lives in an RV.” Black gets slammed with what may be the meanest put-down of the night when he reads aloud a tweets that asks if he is married because “that’s f***in gross.”
This Boy Instagrammed a Pope Francis Selfie Posted: 24 Sep 2015 07:08 AM PDT Not only has Pope Francis brought much buzz to the United States, but he’s also allowed for some unbeatable photo ops. Many have taken to Instagram to share moments during Francis’ first United States visit as the Pope, including one lucky boy—Kristupas Vorobjovas, 11—who gave us all #selfiegoals in front of the Vatican Embassy. A group of nuns also got in on the fun, “tailgating” before mass in the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Pope Francis was welcomed at the White House Wednesday morning, followed by a prayer service at St. Matthew’s. He will continue his U.S. tour in New York City Thursday, followed by a trip to Philadelphia. This article originally appeared on People.com
Female Dating App Users Are Most Responsive to These Types of Messages Posted: 24 Sep 2015 05:01 AM PDT It turns out the way to a woman’s heart might actually be through her stomach, at least according to a new report. The dating app Hinge, which introduces users through friends of friends on Facebook, claims “women are 40% more likely than men to respond to openers that are food-related,” after a month-long experiment that focused on finding the most effective conversation starter. Men were more responsive when asked out directly, meaning messages such as “free this week?” or “drinks soon?” Twenty-two percent of Hinge users in the U.S. received a selection of “original openers” that they could send to their matches. The company’s copywriters and data analysts composed more than 100 “conversation starters” for this experiment. ![]() Most of the report does not say anything particularly new — it’s only natural that personalized openers would get more responses. There is also one section that highlights the conversation starters that were most effective in several major U.S. cities. For example, food-related ones got the most responses in Washington D.C., while 90s-themed ones were most effective in Chicago. A full map is below: Hinge works in 34 U.S. cities and four cities abroad.
Watch Kenan and Kel Reunite at Good Burger on The Tonight Show Posted: 23 Sep 2015 11:38 PM PDT Comedy these days has no shortage of riotous duets: Key and Peele; Amy Poehler and Tina Fey; John Mulaney and Nick Kroll. But years before any of these acts, Generation Y was watching Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell, who starred on the Nickelodeon sketch program All That during its heyday in the mid-1990s, and whose eponymous television series was one of the most popular shows targeting the youth audience during its run from 1996 to 2000. On Wednesday night’s episode of The Tonight Show, host Jimmy Fallon reunited the pair, to the abject delight of his audience. It was, after all, the first time they’ve appeared onscreen together since All That‘s 10th anniversary special in 2005. The seven-minute sketch riffs on their 1997 film Good Burger, the tale of two delightfully inept fast food workers that is now a cult classic in the nostalgia canon. This time, though, Fallon joined Mitchell — whom has stayed mostly out of the spotlight with the exception of a 2006 death hoax on MySpace and a few other appearances — behind the Good Burger counter. Thompson, now a 12-season stalwart of the Saturday Night Live cast, plays a construction worker who comes by to order a Double Good Burger and some Good Fries. It is as deliciously absurd as you’d expect. Read next: Kel Mitchell On His Return to Nickelodeon and Why He Still Loves Orange Soda
This Bride Will Be the 11th in Her Family to Wear This 120-Year-Old Wedding Dress Posted: 23 Sep 2015 10:53 PM PDT Abigail Kingston was never going to wear any old white gown to her wedding. To keep up with family tradition, the 30-year-old from Bethlehem, Pa., will grace her Oct. 17 nuptials in a 120-year-old silk-satin dress that hasn’t been worn since 1991. The dress was debuted in 1895 by Kingston’s great-great grandmother, Mary Lowry Warren, and ten different brides on her mother’s side of the family have now walked down the aisle wearing it, according to local news site lehighvalleylive.com. The sentiment behind the Victorian-era gown is what matters most to the family. “It’s not just the dress that’s been handed down,” Leslie Kingston, Abigail’s mother, told the news site. “It’s the love.” The gown had to be shipped to Kingston by a far-flung great aunt, who wore it herself in 1960, but was in a sorry state when it finally arrived — the satin was stained brown and the material was filled with holes. “Who would think anything would last that long?” adds Leslie Kingston. Since then, the sleeves have been replaced and the holes patched up after 200 hours of extremely detailed work by bridal designer Deborah LoPresti. But the dress remains extremely fragile, and so the bride won’t actually risk wearing it while walking down the aisle, but will instead slip it on during the cocktail hour, according to lehighvalleylive.com. Still, that’s the “something old” sorted then.
Raven and Chelsea Reuniting to Sing the That’s So Raven Theme Song Is Everything Posted: 23 Sep 2015 02:36 PM PDT We’ve caught a glimpse of the future and we know you’ll love this video. In case you haven’t been keeping up with the cast of That’s So Raven, Anneliese van der Pol, who played Raven’s best friend Chelsea on the Disney Channel show, has been trying her hand at a solo singing career over the past few years. On Tuesday night, van der Pol had her first full solo concert at 54 Below in New York City. And to everyone’s delight, she brought former co-star Raven-Symoné on stage with her to perform two songs. As soon as the duo starts to sing the That’s So Raven theme song, the crowd goes insane. Van der Pol even busts out the rap verse to fill in for missing castmate Orlando Brown. The entire performance is a series of “oh, snap” moments.
| This Guy’s Very Intense Boston Accent Only Makes This ‘Sea Monstah’ More Real Posted: 23 Sep 2015 02:26 PM PDT In a video that seems straight out of the movie Ted, Michael Bergin, from Malden, Mass., freaks out and curses after every other word in a very thick Boston accent. The reason? Well, he thinks he has spotted a baby whale while on his friend Jason “Jay” Foster’s boat in Boston Harbor. Or maybe a flounder. Or a tuna. Either way, he wants to do something about it. “That thing looks dead, man, we gotta call the aquarium or something, dude,” he says in the video below, which, again, has a lot of profanity: The New England Aquarium issued a statement clarifying that the “sea monstah” looks like an ocean sunfish (Mola mola), poses no threat to humans and tends to stay close to the water’s surface, behavior that scientists believe allows it to “thermoregulate” by letting “seabirds to pluck off parasites.”

Here’s LeBron James’ Son Doing an On-Point Impression of His Dad Posted: 23 Sep 2015 01:24 PM PDT It’s no secret that LeBron James’ oldest son, LeBron James, Jr., has inherited his father’s basketball prowess. But it turns out his second son, Bryce Maximus James, takes after LeBron’s on-court behavior in another way. King James posted a video to his Instagram that features Bryce imitating the basketball star’s signature celebration, “The Silencer.” While plenty of football players have copied the move, the 8-year-old proves that shared DNA is the key to perfect execution of his father’s high-knees, chest-slapping maneuver. The boy also lets out a LeBron-esque scream to top it all off. Like father, like son.
