Watch Hugh Jackman Kickstart the 2015 ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Posted: 05 Sep 2015 11:19 AM PDT

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge swept across the Internet last year, garnering the attention of just about every celebrity and raising awareness and donations in the process. Hugh Jackman is ready for round two.

“I know I’m late but this is the 2015 ALS Ice Bucket Challenge,” he said in a video posted to Twitter on Saturday. Sitting in a bathtub while wearing a white dress shirt and black bowtie, the actor exclaimed “bring it on” before pouring a bucket of ice water over his head.

Jackman included the official Twitter handle for MND Australia, an organization that helps Australians living with motor neuron disease through a collaboration with state MND associations. Pete Frates and Pat Quinn, founders of the Ice Bucket Challenge, relaunched the campaign for 2015 at Fenway Park in Boston at the end of July.

“First and foremost, I want to thank everyone who took the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge last year,” Frates said. “Because of you, the needle was greatly moved in the battle against this disease. Please note that this year’s Ice Bucket Challenge is as important as last year. We would not ask you to dump cold water over your head again just for the fun of it.”

Kicking off in 2014, the Ice Bucket Challenge sought to raise awareness of ALS and collect donations to further ALS research and services. Nominated participants had the option of donating to theALS Association or douse themselves with buckets of ice water. They would then nominate three people to take up the cause.

Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Lady Gaga, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Chris Pratt were among the celebrity participants. Jackman, accompanied by the cast and crew of Pan, also took up the cause last year and posted a video showing them getting icy from the set.

30 Cadets Injured in West Point Pillow Fight

Posted: 05 Sep 2015 11:16 AM PDT

An annual pillow fight for freshman cadets at the United States Military Academy at West Point turned violent this August, leaving 30 injured, including 24 who suffered from concussions.

The pillow fight has long been a way for freshman to blow off steam after training over the summer, but the New York Times reports this year several students packed pillows with hard objects and bloodied and bashed fellow revelers.

The fight occurred on Aug. 20 and generated buzz on social media, according to the Times, but the military academy did not confirm that the fight and injuries occurred until Thursday.

A video of the event posted on People.com shows some, but not all, cadets wearing amour and helmets to protect from the blows delivered by their friends and classmates.

Participants told the New York Times that a cadet had suffered from a broken leg and one person had to be taken away in an ambulance after being knocked unconscious.

The school says all injured students have returned at that they are investigating the incident.

“West Point applauds the cadets’ desire to build esprit and regrets the injuries to our cadets,”Lt. Col. Christopher Kasker, a West Point spokesman, said. “We are conducting appropriate investigations into the causes of the injuries.”

This 12 Year Old Girl Is Probably Smarter Than You

Posted: 05 Sep 2015 10:49 AM PDT

A 12-year-old British girl has joined the elite class of achievers who have earned the highest possible score on a Mensa IQ test.

Lydia Sebastian, who has read all seven Harry Potter books three times, scored a 162 on the Cattell III B paper test administered by Mensa, the elite group of those with the highest IQs. According to the Guardian, the girl pressed her parents all year to allow her to take the intelligence test, which she took during her school break.

Sebastian completely downplayed the super tough exam–going so far as to call it “easy.”

“At first, I was really nervous but once I started, it was much easier than I expected it to be and then I relaxed, she said. “I gave it my best shot really.”

The youngest member of British Mensa is four years old, the paper reports.
