| Watch Elementary School Kids Do the Whip and Nae Nae in Gym Class Posted: 15 Sep 2015 09:02 AM PDT Most people who are not striving to be professional athletes would be horrified if their performance in gym class got posted on YouTube and started to go viral. But one performance in a gym class in northern Alabama deserves to be seen by the world. In a video uploaded to YouTube on Aug. 20, the physical education instructor at Harvest Elementary School, Jared Paschall, leads a group of students in a cardio workout inspired by the dance performed by rapper Silentó in his music video for “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae).” The routine requires doing lunges, high knees, jumping jacks, and pushups — certainly much more rigorous than the music video original. Paschall told AL.com, a news outlet in the state, that he has written the White House to suggest First Lady Michelle Obama make the video part of her campaign to encourage exercise and healthy eating. Whether she will respond to the video with her own version of the “Whip/Nae Nae” dance remains to be seen. Read next: Ellen DeGeneres Teaches Hillary Clinton How To Whip/Nae Nae (h/t Mashable) |
| Watch a String Quartet Perform on the Side of the Road for People Stuck in a Traffic Jam Posted: 15 Sep 2015 08:40 AM PDT The sounds of a traffic jam are not usually music to anyone’s ears. But over the weekend, a string quartet performed for passengers in cars that came to a halt because a runaway horse shut down a section of the English motorway, M5, on the border of Devon and Somerset, according a video of the scene first posted to Facebook by Helen Delingpole, 45, of Ferndale, Wales. In her clip, the musicians can be heard playing Pachelbel’s “Canon in D” in a roadside concert. A cellist in the group, Alison Gillies, 37, from Bristol, told The Telegraph that she and her fellow performers had been coming from a wedding.

| Watch Sophia Vergara Explain Why She Once Found Ed O’Neill ‘Very Sexy’ Posted: 15 Sep 2015 08:07 AM PDT On Jimmy Kimmel Live Monday night, actress Sophia Vergara told the comedian that when she was growing up in Colombia she would watch Modern Family co-star Ed O’Neill play Al Bundy on the sitcom Married With Children. She said she always thought he spoke Spanish — “he had a very sexy Antonio Banderas voice” — before she realized the show was dubbed for a non-American audience. A photo flashed across the screen during the segment that showed O’Neill reprising his role as Al Bundy and Vergara dressing like Peg Bundy as part of a shoot for The Hollywood Reporter‘s upcoming list of “Hollywood’s 100 Favorite TV Shows” (due out September 25). Modern Family returns for its seventh season on September 23. |
| John Cena Congratulating a 7-Year-Old Cancer Survivor Is the Sweetest Thing You’ll See Today Posted: 15 Sep 2015 07:53 AM PDT After Monday night’s episode of “WWE Raw” went off the air, John Cena pointed out a very special little girl in the crowd — Kiara Grindrod, a 7-year-old cancer survivor. Cena congratulated Grindrod for recovering from the disease and then went out into the stands, joined by fellow wrestler Sting, to greet and hug her. Both wrestlers presented the little girl with gifts, with Sting giving her one of his famed gloves. “On behalf of Sting, myself and every person behind that screen, we sincerely want to thank you for being our guest tonight, for being an inspiration to not only us in the ring, but every single person outside the ring and around the world,” Cena said. “You’re seven years old and I am proud to say, you have beat the battle against cancer.” The crowd gave it up for the little girl, loudly applauding while chanting “YES” and “This is awesome.” |
| Watch Novak Djokovic Serve a Tennis Ball Right at Stephen Colbert Posted: 15 Sep 2015 07:20 AM PDT On The Late Show Monday night, the U.S. Open Men’s Singles Champion Novak Djokovic showed off the trophy he won by defeating Roger Federer the day before and defended his title by serving a tennis ball right at Stephen Colbert. All the comedian had to protect himself with was a version of Captain America’s shield that Marvel gave him. The Serbian tennis player, who can serve at a speed of up to 130 mph, hit the shield on the first try — aced it, if you will. And, luckily, he did not seem to injure the late-night host.

| Watch the Wonderful New Tide To Go Ad That Takes On the Gay Marriage Debate Posted: 15 Sep 2015 07:11 AM PDT Tide To Go is poised to enter the gay marriage debate with a new tongue-in-cheek ad. Director Mark Nickelsburg posted the commercial to his Facebook page, and while the ad hasn’t hit the air yet (and it’s unclear whether it actually will) it’s already generating a lot of buzz. In the commercial, two men head to the altar, but are stopped on the church steps by a serious looking woman determined to make sure they don’t “blemish the sanctity of marriage!” As the couple winds up for a massive argument, the woman pulls out a Tide To Go pen and removes a stain from the shirt of one of the grooms. When the stain is gone, the men receive the blessing of the woman, played by Pee Wee’s Playhouse actress Lynne Marie Stewart a.k.a. Miss Yvonne, the most beautiful woman in the world. The ad is certainly timely. In his Facebook post Nicklesburg references Kim Davis, the clerk who was jailed after refusing to authorize marriage licenses to same-sex couples. He noted, “First a clerk in Kentucky, and now a church lady in Los Angeles! This same-sex couple faces yet another obstacle on the way to marriage equality in this spot I directed for Tide to Go.” This isn’t the first time Tide has featured a gay couple in one of their commercials. An ad that aired in Canada featured a gay couple arguing about laundry. Tide’s parent company, Procter & Gamble, has prominently stated their support of marriage equality, using their official Twitter account to promote the cause and noting that “labels are for products, not people.” [H/T NewNowNext] |
| Watch Stevie Wonder Do Carpool Karaoke with James Corden on The Late Late Show Posted: 15 Sep 2015 06:16 AM PDT Stevie Wonder joined James Corden for an all-new Carpool Karaoke on Monday night’s episode of The Late Late Show. Though Wonder “forgot his license” and was unable to drive, that didn’t stop the legend from having a good time. From busting out his harmonica, to singing to Corden’s wife, to even doing his best James Corden impression, Wonder looked pretty excited to be riding with the host. Previous carpool karaoke segments have included Justin Bieber, Rod Stewart, and Iggy Azalea – all driving with Corden to sing some of their biggest hits. This carpool karaoke included Wonder classics like “Superstition,” “Isn’t She Lovely” and “Sir Duke.” The singer also suggested that he and Corden form a group called The Wondercats, an old-fashioned band who will “write new lyrics to Stevie Wonder songs.” This article originally appeared on Entertainment Weekly.com |
| Johnny Depp has Harsh Words for Anyone Who Tries to Bully His Kids Posted: 15 Sep 2015 06:06 AM PDT Word to the wise from Johnny Depp: don’t even think about bullying the 52-year-old actor’s kids. During a press conference at the Toronto Film Festival, where Depp was promoting his latest film Black Mass, the actor supported advice given by his character, gangster Whitey Bulger, in the film. In one scene, Bulger tells his son how to fight on the playground. “If someone tried to bully my kid, if they didn’t destroy the little booger, I would,” Depp said. Depp’s latest film is being billed as bit of a comeback for the actor, who has starred in a series of box office flops over the past couple of years. At the Toronto press conference, the actor jokingly said the film had “revived” his career, according to the Guardian. Black Mass will hit theaters on Sept. 18.

| You’ll Never Believe How Far This Crocodile Can Leap Out of the Water Posted: 15 Sep 2015 02:48 AM PDT Maybe it shouldn’t be surprising that an animal that has been an apex predator for hundreds of millions of years can launch itself out of the water. But it’s certainly impressive. As Trevor Frost, the National Geographic photographer who captured this Instagram footage explained, “Crocodiles have incredibly strong tails.” See for yourself in the video. Just try not to think of crocodiles’ 3,700-pound-per-square-inch bite force, or their ability to swim at 25mph, or how some grow to 20 feet, or that they can be found in Africa, Asia, Australia and the Americas. Just think about how the crocodile looks like it is dancing. It is nothing more than a dancing crocodile. |
| This Adorable Bear Just Wanted Some Pizza Posted: 14 Sep 2015 04:05 PM PDT A bear in Colorado Springs got hungry for a little snack on Monday, and like many of us do, she decided she was in a pizza mood. The Colorado Springs Police Department and Colorado’s Department of Wildlife responded to local pie shop Louie’s Pizza and apparently caught the little bear without trouble. The police department posted photos of her capture on Facebook, explaining that the sleepy-looking critter had first been spotted near a local high school and calling her “Not your ordinary pizza customer!” |
